Classroom Guidance Instruction

Regular classroom instruction is provided to help students make realistic and appropriate choices about high school programs of study, post secondary options, and career exploration. Classroom guidance lessons are based upon the following developmental goals:

The school environment:

  • To become familiar with the facilities at Schenck High School

  • To learn more about the guidance program and the role of the guidance counselor

Self and others

  • To understand individual characteristics, abilities, and interests

  • To recognize and respect the feelings, needs, and uniqueness of others

Decision making and problem solving
  • To understand the decision making and problem solving process

  • To know when and how to ask for help

School success skills
  • To develop a positive attitude about school and learning

  • To learn how to set goals and priorities

Career Awareness
  • To understand and value the world of work

  • To understand the correlation between interests and abilities and occupations

Community pride and involvement
  • To appreciate one's home, school, and community

  • To be a positive contributing member of the school and community
