The counselor at Schenck High School will implement various classroom and group activities designed to prepare your son or daughter for post secondary opportunities. The following are some key areas in which your counselor will provide direct curriculum based instruction to all students:

  • Career exploration

  • Financing an education

  • Preparing for a job

  • Improving study skills

  • Transition to high school

Preparing for college admissions Special Guidance Programs at Schenck High School

The following list of special activities will give you some idea of the types of student and parent programs we are currently offering, or are in the initial stages of organizing and implementing at Schenck High School .

PSAT/SAT Review and Preparation Seminars

College Admissions Night for Parents and Students

  • Financial Aid Night for Parents and Students

  • College Transitions Seminar

  • College Fair

  • Career Fair

  • Peer Counseling Training

  • Peer Mentoring

  • Advisor/Advisee Program

Guidance Support Personnel

At various times throughout the year your school counselor will receive support from the following individuals and/or agencies:

School Nurses, Classroom teachers, Administrators, Support Personnel, Special Services, DARE Officers, Referral Agencies, Business Persons, Community Advocacy Groups

Teacher Consultation

In addition to providing direct classroom, group, and individual instruction, the counselor will assist and consult with teachers in areas such as:

Guidance related activities, Group dynamics, Conflict resolution, Crisis intervention, In-service programs, School wide activities, Pupil Evaluation Team meetings, Academic improvement strategies

Parent Consultation

The counselor at Schenck is available to all parents of students at our school. Some of the areas in which we may work together are:

New student orientation, Referrals to community agencies, Home/school relations, P.E.T. meetings, The financial aid process, Dealing with crisis situations, Scheduling and course selections, Academic improvement strategies, Career and post secondary selections, Student Assistance Team
